The GD JIU-JITSU Events in association with the Arizona State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (AZSBJJF) is proud to announce the Arizona Brazilian Jiu-jitsu State Championship 2009. The competition will take place on July 11 & 12 at the Westwood High School located at 945 W. 8th St. in Mesa, AZ 85201

Gracie Mag will be covering the event.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition will offer kids, juveniles, Adult (Male and Female), Masters and Senior Divisions.

Registration

. Each competitor must fill out the registration form online. The Pre-registration fee is $50 for the adults and juveniles (16-17 yrs) or and $35 for the kids division until July 3rd. After this date,$60 for adults and juveniles and, $45 for the kids.

KIDS Division is limited to 200 Competitors.

Juvenile, Adult, Masters and Senior Divisions are limited to 350 competitors.

1st AZ BJJ Kids Cup Results

The 1st Arizona Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Kids Cup took place at the Broadway Recreation Center in Mesa, Arizona on April 25th. The event promoted by GD Jiu-Jitsu Events, in association with AZ State BJJ Federation, was sponsored by Forever Fighter, Custom T-Shirt Warehouse, OTM Fight Shop, Gracie Magazine Association and Arizona Combat Sports. The event was dedicated to competitors between ages of 4 and 17 yrs old and was a great success with its debut at 163 competitors.

AZSBJJF Referees at the Pan Ams 09

The AZSBJJF sent two of its certified referees to work and represent at this year’s Pan-Ams in Carson, CA. Chris Lopez, a black belt, and Jacob McClintock, a brown belt, both under Gustavo Dantas.

Gustavo Dantas Joins the GMA

The GRACIE Magazine Association has added another member to its network of Jiu-Jitsu promoters. Black belt Gustavo Dantas is the professor responsible for the Nova Uniao Arizona school, in Tempe,AZ.

Dantas comes from the linage of Andre Pederneiras and Fernando Cruz. He has some big titles in competitive Jiu-Jitsu, such as Brazilian champion, world champion and more. He has competed in the ADCC Submission wrestling competition. For more info, go to gdjiujitsu.com.

4th AZ Open of BJJ Results

On February 21, 2009, the Arizona State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (AZSBJJF) hosted the 4th AZ Open of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The tournament took place at the Westwood High School in Mesa, AZ. Featuring over 400 competitors representing Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Maryland and over 1000 spectators, the 4th AZ Open was a success.

The day started out with the kids divisions with there being 140 young competitors. All the schools represented themselves very well, and the team scores became very close. The team winners of the kids division were:

Wellington “Megaton” Diaz took second place at Feather weight/Black Belt/Adult Division on February 1st. Megaton defeated two opponents but, he lost in the finals against World Champion,Mario Reis.

Traven is a 5th Degree Black Belt and his professional career in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA is remarkable.
